Bicycle Patrol

In the fall of 2005, Saginaw Police Department initiated bicycle patrols.  Bicycles allow officers to patrol lengthy linear parks, busy shopping districts and construction sites not easily done in vehicles or on foot.  Bike officers can also see and hear things they simply cannot while in police cars.  While the bicycles do not replace traditional patrol units, they do serve as an effective supplemental tool.

The department currently has eight officers trained in bicycle patrol tactics.  Sergeant Mark Andress, Officer Tony Shifflett, Officer Brandon Badovinac, Officer Corey Burnett, Officer Damon Ing, Officer Justin Kipker, Officer Daniel Cupples, and Officer Joshuah Smith have completed a 40-hour course in Police Bicycle Patrol.
