Also in the 1800's, a young man in England was making his way into the history books of the police profession, eventually laying the foundation for modern law enforcement.  That man, Sir Robert Peel, founded the first Metropolitan Police Force in England in 1829.  The original police force model was based on a set of principles authored by Peel, and commonly referred to as the "Peelian Principles."  One of the most important of Peels' principles declared, "The Police are the Public (community), and the Public (community) are the Police".  Sir Robert Peel may not have envisioned the modern Citizens Police Academy, but he certainly understood the importance for police and community interaction...nearly 180 years ago!  To this day, Sir Robert Peel is known as the "Father of Modern Policing".

 

Peel had a vision, carving his way into the history of police service and forever etching the importance of police community relationships in history.
